Introducing Hazel

Hazel is a top drawer based in the beautiful countryside near Clonakilty, West Cork.

Hazel studied International Development and Food Policy in UCC and became interested in using creative visuals to engage people in global issues. This led her to study illustration and graphic design for two years and it was during this time, in 2016, that she was asked by Eimear McNally if she would be interested in graphic recording. Since then, Hazel has worked with all kinds of clients on a wide range of topics, both in Ireland and internationally, mostly in the non-profit realm. The highlight of Hazel’s career so far has been graphic recording in person, with fellow Drawesomer Stéphanie Heckman, at the UNFCCC’s COP27 Climate Conference in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt in November 2022. And as a Cork person, she feels thrilled to have had her animations on Traveller rights and culture screened in three Cork city centre cinemas, including two screenings at the Indie Cork Film Festival (in 2021 and 2022).

Hazel also has a QQI level 5 in Sustainable Horticulture (Permaculture) and is passionate about biodiversity, climate justice and community climate action. Hazel was delighted to be selected for An Taisce’s Climate Ambassador Programme in 2023.

Hazel is available for in-person or online graphic recording at events in Ireland and for illustration and animation projects. She is particularly interested in collaborating with organisations who work in the following areas:

  • Climate Action

  • Biodiversity

  • Agroecology

  • Children and Youth issues

  • Gender/LGBTQI+ Issues

  • Human Rights

  • Education
